Our Story

The Feldenkrais Institute of NY was founded in 2005.  The partners of the Institute — Sheryl Field, Maria Lanaras, Marek Wyszynski and David Zemach-Bersin — pooled their experience, resources and a shared vision to open the nation’s largest center devoted to the work of Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais.  The Institute offers the following programs and services for the public.

  • Weekly public classes using Awareness Through Movement
  • Evening and weekend workshops for the public
  • Individual sessions using Functional Integration for adults and children
  • Feldenkrais Professional Training Programs
  • Graduate programs for Feldenkrais Practitioners
  • Audio, video and print resources on The Feldenkrais Method
  • In addition, the Institute shares space with The Feldenkrais Research Foundation, a 501(c)3 Charitable organization that funds research using The Feldenkrais Method

I have long been intrigued by this subtle form of retraining the nervous system, which I currently recommend to patients whose movement has been restricted by injury, cerebral palsy, stroke, fibromyalgia, or chronic pain. I find it to be much more useful than standard physical therapy. I also believe that the Feldenkrais Method can help older people achieve greater range of motion, flexibility, and help us all feel more comfortable in our bodies.

Individual Sessions

The most direct way to benefit from Feldenkrais is to work privately with one of our highly skilled practitioners. In Functional Integration lessons, the work is tailored specifically to your needs, the touch is gentle and communicative, and your comfort is respected.  Call 212-727-1014 for an appointment.

As a career dancer and teacher, I am no longer feeling daily discomfort from the over-use of muscle groups, and I am more efficient with teaching movement. I truly believe that whatever you are pursuing in life, Feldenkrais can help you achieve your goal in a clear and gentle way.
