Moshe Feldenkrais' method is the only objective system of movement training I know of.
Anna Halprin, Founder Dancers Workshop and Tamalpa Institute

Physical therapists, Feldenkrais practitioners and other movement and exercise specialists are often first to treat clients with hip problems and pain. It is crucial to be able to recognize differences between arthritic and non-arthritic pain, intra-articular and extra-articular hip pathologies, as they require unique treatment approaches.

Your knowledge and comfort in safely treating clients after hip surgery is essential – currently over 300,000 total hip replacement surgeries are performed each year, more than 2.5 million Americans have undergone total hip arthroplasty and new arthroscopic procedures for non-arthritic hip pain are on the rise.

In this workshop we will review current treatment guidelines for both arthritic and non-arthritic hip joint pain. Then you will experience first hand the Feldenkrais approach to treatment of problems associated with hip pain and pathology.

Students will gain a unique understanding of the alignment, control and dynamics of the entire lower body, pelvis and spine.  The workshop will cover “do’s and don’ts of rehabilitation of clients with hip problems and surgery, and students will learn how to become more effective in treating common orthopedic problems involving the hips, including:

– Osteoarthritis
– Femoro-acetabular impingement (FAI)
– Labral tears
– Iliotibial band syndrome
– Tendinitis and tendinopathy
– Bursitis
– Dysfunction of hip abductor mechanism
– Muscle and tendon tears
– Balance and gait difficulties
– Postural dysfunctions

As a neuroscientist interested in the development and plasticity of the nervous system, it is gratifying to see how the Feldenkrais Method demonstrates these principles. The Feldenkrais Method has also greatly improved my personal quality of life — physically and emotionally — by reducing the restrictions and limitations I thought were permanent due to multiple sclerosis.
